Amazing! After so many years of study and research, to actually get to work with the Prowler's Talisman! I owe Basil Menant so much for granting me this opportunity. And thanks to <<1>> for not only finding the talisman but allowing me to assist them in coaxing out all of its remarkable capabilities.
My investigations show that the Prowler's Talisman is a Direnni amulet that first appeared in the early decades of the First Era and is said to have originated with an ancient order of Breton mage/thieves who adopted Phynaster the Wayfarer as their patron hero. They crafted a metal disk and hung it on a metal chain to serve as a badge of office for their leader. An image engraved into the disk shows the Boot of Phynaster, but instead of striding purposefully, it rests on its toes, implying stealth and sneakiness.
This ancient order interpreted the tales of Phynaster to describe the wanderer as moving silently throughout the world, going wherever he chose and taking whatever he desired. They added their own descriptor to balance out Phynaster the Guardian, the Preserver, and the Wayfarer. They called him Phynaster the Prowler. His exploits became legends, fodder for their arcane and criminal adventures. As such, the magic provided by the ever-improving talisman coincides with stealth and thieving skills, becoming stronger with every enchanted gem added to the amulet.
How the Prowler's Talisman eventually found its way into the possession of Sage Voernet, or how it subsequently wound up in the collection of a Glenumbra noble are mysteries I have yet to fully uncover. What I do know and what is relevant in the here and now is that the amulet features four indentations where the enchanted gems that once enhanced its abilities are meant to be slotted. As <<1>> brings any enchanted gems they discover to me, I can slot them into the amulet and restore the talisman to its original level of power.
My research indicates that the four gems have their own legends and stories to tell. We're looking for these gems that once adorned the talisman and have since been scattered to the four winds. I don't know for sure what power or ability each gem provides, but the following names appear again and again in legends and the meager historic documents I've managed to get my hands on.
Phynaster's Gem of Agility
Phynaster's Gem of Stealth
Phynaster's Gem of Cunning
Phynaster's Gem of Deception
I eagerly await the moment I can examine the first of these gems and restore it to its rightful place within the talisman!
