Report on the Skittering Precinct

Prepared for Kharakhal Moon-Eye by Baz the Bashful

Forgive me if my notes are not as comprehensive as you would hope. I was admittedly focused on seeking out opportunities to take soil samples and spore prints of undiscovered fungi, but I hope this report serves as an adequate primer on the Skittering Precinct from an explorer's perspective.

The Skittering Precinct is all that Marifah warned of: webs and silk sacs of spiders as far as one can wander. I would say that I am fond of spiders when they are a reasonable size—any larger than my hand, and I find them disquieting—but looking down on the boulder-sized egg sacs one can see from the oases makes even my skin crawl. It is a nest of chaos, and I am not unconvinced that the factions' rate of killing does not put a dent in the arachnids' numbers but only serves to keep them from overflowing into the Starlit Plaza.

Fire and even hot coals seem an effective deterrent in various places throughout the district. As far as Marifah's urgings to burn the place down, I'm not even convinced the flames would catch. The place is unreasonably warm and humid in ways that seem ideal for fungal growth, though I observed less than expected. It seems the sheer number of arachnids of all sizes and their rate of proliferation wins out in the war for resources against other potential competing species.

One wonders of the circumstances that made for this alternate version of Fargrave, where what seems to have been a proud and spired settlement is now overrun with arachnids, and where the light is perpetually the foreboding sepia that one sees before devastating storms. Turuzi remarked on the presence of the Knights of the Silver Rose—in our world, supposedly an order that pledged itself to protecting Tamriel from Daedric threats. Curious indeed to see them here allied with Spiderkith and all manner of many-legged Daedra.

One must be careful where one walks in the Skittering Precinct. Not only because of the roaming Calamitous Roksa, but due to the webs we ran into that slow and ensnare. Turuzi is much more perceptive than I, and she was furious at our bypassing chests and spoils enshrouded in the selfsame webs, as we had no means to reach them without making ourselves vulnerable to attack. I've heard murmurs of some relic that might be able to bypass these shrouds somehow, but we haven't had much luck in finding splinters so far, and we're not high enough in Najirra's regard to try and buy any from her. (You can blame Turuzi for that.)

If you seek more information on the Skittering Precinct, please send other adventurers in our stead. Turuzi has had enough of the Skittering Precinct and wants to invest our time in other districts that are allegedly spider free.
