Relics of the Night Market: The Egg of Arac

The Skittering Precinct is home to many species of arachnids, most of which are known to denizens of Nirn. There is one species, however, that is unknown to our world: a rare and valuable parasite I have taken to calling the creche spider.

To attract the creche spider, one must assemble a relic known as the Egg of Arac. Splinters of said relic have been found throughout the Skittering Precinct. The creche spider, though largely immobile during the guardianship phase of its life, is otherwise known for its mobility and agility. It hunts using bolas made of its sticky web, lassoing prey as small as mice and as large as birds of prey, with frightening speed and precision, to isolate and feed upon.

Once the creche spider mates and finds itself in possession of an egg sac, however, it seeks another large, mobile organism to bind the egg sac to (usually another species of spider). There, it uses its host's size to its advantage, guarding its young with a ferocity that matches those of spiders a hundred times its size, and providing benefits to the host, which I will detail further on.

Night Market adventurers will be lucky if they get a glimpse at all of the relic itself, bare and ready for use. Once assembled, the nearest creche spider (it's always alarming how close the nearest spider is, especially one of this size) will descend upon the relic's emitter, having been tricked through magic into identifying it as its egg sac, which it then binds lovingly in silk. There the creche spider will remain, dutifully watching over the item and ensuring the safety of its host.

It is vitally important that the relic be assembled on the gauntlet of the wearer. Attempting to don the gauntlet after the arachnid has bonded to the relic is to risk perpetual attack from the spider until it or the wearer perishes. The alchemy that triggers the guardianship life cycle phase must co-mingle with your scent in order to establish yourself as host in the mind of the arachnid.

When bonded in symbiosis, the arachnid transfers that mobility to its host. It is an opportunistic feeder, drinking blood and taking scraps from anything killed by the host. Rather than pulling targets in with its bolas, it will instead pull itself (and the host) to an indicated target. (Note: the arachnid will only target objects that have structural strength, ample landing space, and are free of additional hostiles, presumably for the host's protection.) The creche spider is also known for its fastidious tidiness, protecting its host from being ensnared by rival webs or dismantling spidersilk barriers around entrances or objects of interest.

Overall, despite the disgust many rightfully have of wearing a living spider on their arm, this relic proves invaluable when adventuring in the Skittering Precinct.
