A Meeting Between Friends

A conversation between Tachien and Madam Whim, recorded faithfully here by Mezena, who overheard it during a visit to the House of Whims.

MW: Tachien, how wonderful of you to grace the house of Whims. We missed your shining presence.
T: Darling, it's been too long.
MW: How goes it with your precious Goad?
T: Starting with questions already? You usually wait for me to begin the transaction.
MW: What can I say? Many passed through the House of Whims and we're flush on favors. I have the liquidity to exchange free information to an old friend and loyal customer. Unless of course, you want to negotiate for your time here.
T: What are the rules of ruthless commerce between friends? We can speak freely. The Goad are doing well. All the items we procured from the last market sold well. I'm quite pleased by how much excitement we created for the market.
MW: Don't you worry that your excitement was too successful? The House of Whims taught me that energizing Fargravians only brings more of them to your door. Your next market may not be so fruitful.
T: That could be true, but we both know customers are willing to pay more for curios they see others clamoring about. Don't try to convince me that excitement isn't bountiful. Not when you're so flush with favors.
MW: Very well. I'll do no such thing.
T: Your house is thriving. I don't think I mentioned it before. But how many of the Great Ogrim paraded past our settees?
MW: I believe that was the fourth. The Great Ogrim are some of my most loyal visitors. They seek to understand and experience so much.
T: They frequent our auctions as well. Intriguing individuals to be sure. Did you know that Knokh purchased an Apocryphal Glossary from us not too long ago? Didn't even bother to ask what it was.
MW: Did he now? How odd.
T: Madam Whim, how did Knokh know about the Apocryphal Glossary? I never unraveled that riddle.
MW: Perhaps someone told him. Information is a fickle thing. You can never clearly trace how it travels across the market.
T: Well, I'll have to thank whoever made that happen. Knokh paid handsomely for what was only slightly more useful than a dictionary.
MW: Maybe you could repay the kindness with more of your fantastic interplanar wine. I heard the last case smelled fantastic and it would be a welcome gift to anyone in Fargrave.
T: I'll see what I can do.
MW: My jealousy to the lucky recipient.
T: Ha!
