If described without witnessing the truth for yourself, the Parch does not sound as exciting as the other districts which accompanied the Night Market upon its opening. It is a desert filled with sand and desert creatures. There are key differences between what Fargrave has to offer in terms of landscape and what you will encounter in the Parch.
Where Fargrave's desert holds the coolness of night, the Parch is the opposite, a scorching windswept landscape that holds little comfort and extends no sympathy. Where Fargrave is a bustling hub of economic advancement and merchants hawking their wares, the Parch is much quieter and infinitely more deadly. Fargrave's perpetual night is burnt into harsh daylight by the Parch's celestial bodies.
The Parch is a maze-like district covered in strange sights and sounds. Sand pours from the ruins and strong winds blow errant travelers from their chosen paths. Dotted throughout the Parch are pressure plates that launch boulders from the walls. A fearsome creature prowls beneath the sand's surface. And I heard strange chanting originating from the center of the district. Each of these elements would lead to an intriguing adventure if you were so inclined, but my role is that of a scout. In order to keep from drawing undue attention to myself, I kept to the shadows and did not venture further.
Now, to answer the question I know is at the foremost of your mind: what riches does the Parch have to offer? The desert landscape is deceptively barren. Perhaps ancient royalty founded the city which was reduced to the ruins we see in that district. Perhaps a battle between wealthy encampments raged eons ago. Whatever evidence existed to explain the Parch's apparent abundance of plunder was lost to the sands long ago.
What I do know is that the Parch is a barely tapped font of objects, curios, treasures, and valuables. Yes, these are defended by sandstorms, undead, necromancers, and a slew of fanged or clawed creatures ready to cut anyone from Fargrave to pieces. And yes, the treasures are well hidden, but that hardly seems like a deterrent. What else are adventurers for?
If you take my advice, Tachien, you'll send more of our number to the Parch right away.
