Author's Note: The following treatise was composed over thirty years ago. The Regency of Sunport requested a new printing to serve as a guide to the roads and sites of eastern Solstice for our allies from the mainland. However, no one knows for certain what conditions are like currently on the other side of the Writhing Wall.
GRAND JUNCTURE PASS
The main route from western to eastern Solstice, Grand Juncture Pass offers a wide road between the crags and peaks of the Solstice Range. However, little commerce takes place between east and west. The Stone-Nest Argonians rarely come to Sunport, and few Sunport travelers find reason to visit the remote villages, mysterious ruins, and desolate coasts of the east, with the exception of the members of the College of Sea and Sword.
GRISTMUNG HOLD
Long ago, Kinlord Orlemar occupied an old Daedric ruin overlooking the eastern approaches to Grand Juncture Pass to secure a foothold in eastern Solstice. For a time, Gristmung was the strongest fortress in all Solstice. However, the Peace of Xor-Hist brought an end to House Corelanya's efforts to expand eastward, and the old fortress was handed over to the local Stone-Nest tribes. Prior to the arrival of the Worm Cult and the raising of the Writhing Wall, the Stone-Nest kept a small contingent in the hold, but the current disposition of the ancient fort is unknown.
SEA AND SWORD LODGE
Follow the road north from Grand Juncture Pass, and you will soon come to the Sea and Sword Lodge on the eastern slopes of the mountains. The College of Sea and Sword maintain this lodge for training purposes, but opens its doors to travelers of all kinds. In addition to its hospitality, the lodge is renowned for its excellent library.
VAEDINHILL MANOR
The road leading northeast from the Sea and Sword Lodge winds among rocky hills and lonely vales for some distance before it reaches the ruins of Vaedinhill Manor. Another of Kinlord Orlemar's great projects, Vaedinhill served as a grand country estate in its day. However, it was abandoned after his death. Rumors of a buried treasure hidden in the caverns below the old manor draw the occasional fortune-seeker to the ruins, but so far nothing definitive has been discovered.
XUL-HAJ
Continuing eastward along the north coast, a traveler eventually comes to the ruins of the Argonian necropolis of Xul-Haj. In the ancient past, this grand xanmeer served as the primary repository for the dead of the Stone-Nest people. Today the tribe uses newer structures, but the importance of this ancient site cannot be ignored. This highlights one of the primary differences between the Stone-Nest and the Tide-Born, whose funerary practices include interring their dead in stone instead of other mediums.
MOR NARIL
The less said of Mor Naril, the better. This vast Daedric ruin looms over the northeast coast of Solstice like a black mountain. According to legend, this temple-fortress was once dedicated to the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, whose servants engaged in some great evil within its walls. No one goes there now, but Mor Naril is best avoided in any case. The Argonians of eastern Solstice take a dim view of any exploration of the site.
XOR-HIST
Continuing south past Mor Naril along the coastal road, the traveler passes over several old Stone-Nest bridges that eventually lead to the settlement of Xor-Hist. Here Kinlady Torinwe signed the ancient treaty known as the Peace of Xor-Hist, bringing an end to generations of strife between the Corelanyas in exile and Solstice's Argonians. This grand village is the largest Stone-Nest settlement on the island, and also serves as the home of Solstice's only Hist tree. Curiously enough, the Argonians of Solstice seem to have only a passing regard for the Hist, unlike their mainland counterparts.
XUL-KATAMA
Finally, a traveler completing a circuit of eastern Solstice comes to the old Argonian shrine of Xul-Katama. The shrine stands atop a steep-sided island on the southern coast. Frail-looking rope bridges above seething inlets connect the rocky heights of the island with the mainland. According to legend, the priests at Xul-Katama valiantly resisted a terrible siege before they were massacred. Argonians visit the shrine to honor their memory.
