The coins themselves are iron pyrite, a shiny but otherwise innocuous mineral. You can tell by the fact it wafts a small hint of sulfur. The gems are glass. In total, it is an amusing deception.

The others fail to realize the amount of work put into creating such a fraudulent display. An aura of effort surrounds it like flames, hiding its workmanship beneath a veneer of gold.
